We help young people navigate this difficult phase by providing services and opportunities that support them in developing a sense of a personal competence, usefulness, belonging and empowerment.
BOLT™ (Bicycles Over Lunchtime)
BOLT™ is an innovative program which helps primary school students remain engaged in education and the local community.
Through participating in bike maintenance activities young people learn valuable life skills such as communication, leadership, responsibility and teamwork. Positive male mentorship and socialising help them gain confidence and build peer relationships and friendships.
BOLT was introduced by South Port UnitingCare in 2013 at one local school and over the next 3 years the program expanded to 27 schools growing its footprint throughout Greater Melbourne and regional Victoria. As of today the program has been delivered to over 500 participants.

COLT (Cooking Over Lunchtime)
COLT helps upper primary school students who are experiencing food insecurity develop a positive relationship with food and learn about healthy eating habits. The program teaches them the basics of food literacy such as food sourcing, nutrition, cooking and hygiene.
Our youth workers and volunteers cook together with students during lunchtime and explore a wide range of food related topics to describe and encourage a balanced approach to eating for a long and healthy life.
